Hindsight ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our RSS Reader application (the "App"). Please read this policy carefully. By using the App, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Information we collect
We aim to collect as little personal data as possible. We do not collect your name, email address, or any personally identifying information. Depending on how you use the App, we may collect:
Anonymous identifier: A randomly generated ID (via Firebase Anonymous Authentication) used to sync your data across devices. This ID is not linked to your real identity.
Feed subscriptions: Your list of subscribed RSS feeds, stored to enable synchronization and backup.
Purchase information: If you purchase Hindsight Premium, your transaction is processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat. We receive a record of your purchase status (e.g., whether your premium entitlement is active) tied to your anonymous identifier. We do not receive your name, payment method, or billing details.
Usage analytics: We track in-app actions (e.g., articles read, feeds subscribed, features used) to understand how the App is used and improve it. These events are tied to your anonymous identifier, not your real identity.
Device information: Device type, operating system version, and app version for diagnostics and compatibility.
2. How we use your information
We use collected data to:
Provide and maintain the App's functionality, including syncing your feeds and articles across devices.
Process and validate in-app purchases and manage your premium entitlements.
Personalize your experience.
Improve app performance and user experience through aggregated, anonymous usage analytics.
3. Data storage and security
Your data is stored securely and, where applicable, encrypted in transit and at rest.
We use industry-standard security practices to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure.
4. Data retention
On your device: Articles older than 30 days are automatically removed from local storage.
Feed subscriptions: Your subscription list is stored on our servers for as long as you use the App. You can request deletion at any time by contacting us.
Analytics data: Usage events sent to PostHog are retained for up to 1 year. IP addresses are discarded and not stored.
5. Third-party services
We do not sell your data to third parties. The App and website use the following third-party services:
Firebase (Google) — anonymous authentication, cloud data sync, and backend infrastructure. See Google's Privacy Policy.
PostHog — in-app analytics to understand feature usage. Data is tied to your anonymous identifier, not your real identity. See PostHog's Privacy Policy.
